We all know the line, ‘It was twenty years ago today that Sgt Pepper taught the band to play.’ But goodness me, doesn’t time fly.
So much so that I just did some mental arithmetic and believe the song should now start with ‘It was sixty-five years ago today…..’ Perhaps I should have noticed this last year, and I could have merrily written about ‘When I’m sixty-four’.
When Sgt. Pepper’s was released, the ‘Paul is dead’ story was flying around, and the album’s cover art, along with that of Abbey Road, added fuel to the fire. However, forty-five years after the release of the album, it seems Paul McCartney is still alive and kicking—and marrying yet again.
The other thought that comes to mind seeing this album art again is that I really miss LP album covers.
The age of digital may be very convenient, but it has lost the touchy, feely, looky and wonder of those large covers that will probably soon be referred to as works of art.
I have so many memories of my LP records and keeping them in plastic covers to protect them. Oh, ‘Those were the days, my friends, we thought they’d never end…..’
Those were the days Derek, long before CD’s even, when vinyl 45’s, EP’s and LP’s ruled. Remember those god awful stereo units that sat on four spindly legs with the speaker at either end? :D
