The Vandal advertisingNow you’ve been warned!. If you don’t like publicity, advertising, selling, marketing or just plain unadulterated begging, STOP READING. Why not visit the CNN or BBC websites instead? Maybe the Onion News?

Pause for decision and your move to another website.

If you are still here, brace yourself for some serious self promotion then.

All right. All warnings complete.

A bit of background first.

You see I have two wonderful young grandsons and well, as you would understand, I like to shower them with gifts at Christmas. Only natural isn’t it? But the problem is that although readers of my books are extremely kind and generous and as was proved last festive season, bought a lot of my books as gifts, I don’t actually get to see any of the royalties for about six months. So I’m still waiting.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am so grateful to all of those who bought my books and will forever be indebted. It’s just that it means that my grandsons get their Christmas gifts from me in about July or August. So you see the problem?

So I was wondering. Would it be too much to ask to do your Christmas book shopping in the next couple of months? I’m sure you could hide books quite easily in the bottom of a wardrobe for a few months.

Or, why not have Christmas in July? A great southern hemisphere tradition that would really give a smile to my grandkids. Of course there is also the option of getting a book or two of mine to read yourself, but I don’t want to put too many ideas in your head at once.

End of publicity.

Normal transmission of will resume tomorrow.

Hi Derek, I can submit to self sufficiency in the most blatant form :) any suggestions for a first time reader of your books ? Steve

Hi Steve. Well, on the light side I would suggest February The Fifth, or on the drama side, Louis. But I'm extremely biased! Thanks for your comment and brilliant question! Derek

Hello again :) I decided on February The Fifth, it's on it's way – if ever you feel like returning the favour by book is at – I'm all for blatant advertising aswell – looking forward to it's arrival Derek, Steve
